"So, are you sure you're not an android?" I asked Koa, as we sat on a rocky outcrop above the hungry teeth of the valley.

"I'm sure. I just want to get off this planet." She replied.

The Zoic had crashed, and we had barely managed to get back to her before the marauding packs of raptors caught us. Her systems were fried, and there was nothing more I could do with them. The only hope was to find the rescue ship that Koa had picked up from earth. She knew where it would be waiting for us, but first we needed to get through this valley alive.

"OK... So did you program the coordinates for the ship ahead of time?" I asked "Or did you just need me to find my way down here?"

Koa looked at me, her face blank and expressionless. "Why would you ask something like that?" She said, as if she hadn't heard me at all. She stared into the valley below us, watching as packs of tyrannosaurus roamed around looking for food. A pteradon flew by over head, making a noise like a woman's scream before circling back round. "Look," she said, pointing down into the valley "That pack is bigger than the others."

Koa was right - there were five members of it's pack roaming the area below us. Each one was bigger than any other dinosaur I'd seen so far on this planet. As they walked around they didn't look like they were hunting anything in particular, but they were big enough that if they did decide to hunt something then even I wouldn't stand a chance against them. Luckily our only real option was to climb the mountain and wait for a rescue ship - or else die trying. But no matter what happened, Koa was priority number one - she was too valuable for me to let her die on this rock with me. With no way to repair her systems here on this planet I needed her alive and intact. Without her I'd never make it home again... Not that I thought I'd make it back anyway - but I didn't have many options left either way.

"Ok... So lets..."

As I tried to think about what we should do next there was a rumble in the distance - like thunder rolling towards us along the valleys floor... Except it wasn't thunder at all... It was footsteps! A huge green-brown beast emerged at full speed out of the shadows at the base of the canyon walls and started running towards us! Koa span around in alarm and cried out when she saw it too! "What is that?!" She yelled, trying to run away from it! Then another creature appeared behind her - and then another! The valley suddenly filled with these huge monsters as they charged towards us! A massive creature stood upright on two legs - standing three times taller than even me! It roared loudly as it lifted its arm and threw a rock at us with all its might - landing with a loud crash on my helmet and almost knocking me unconscious! Koa screamed as she hid behind me - clutching onto my suit for safety! There were more of them now streaming out of the shadows all around us - charging towards Koa and myself like an angry river bursting a dam! We'd been ambushed by these creatures for some reason or another - but why?

The air was thick with fear as Koa and I sprinted for cover, desperately seeking refuge from the stampede of colossal beasts closing in on us. The ground trembled beneath our feet, vibrating with every forceful step they took. The valley walls seemed to close in, suffocating us with their imposing presence. Each creature was an aberration of nature, a towering reminder of a bygone era.

As we ran, my mind raced, searching for an escape plan, but it seemed like an impossible task. The valley offered no hiding place, no sanctuary, only endless open space brimming with the raw power and fury of prehistoric predators. Every breath I took felt like I was inhaling the primordial essence of this planet, as if the ancient energy seeped into my lungs and infected my very being.

Koa's metallic hand slipped into mine, her fingers cold and unyielding, a stark contrast to the chaos surrounding us. The panic in her eyes mirrored my own, and yet, there was an undeniable determination, an unwavering resolve shining through her artificial irises. She didn't speak a word, but somehow, in that moment, I understood that she needed me to trust her instinct.

We dashed towards a towering rock formation, its crevices promising temporary concealment. The violent thuds of the approaching giants reverberated behind us, rhythmic as a war drum growing louder. With a final burst of adrenaline-fueled strength, we reached the safety of the rock just as the first wave of monstrosities surged past us, their thunderous roars blending into a cacophony.

Koa's eyes darted in every direction, assessing our surroundings for any possible escape route. The valley, devoid of foliage and life, offered no solace, only a desolate landscape where danger lurked at every turn. But her gaze settled on a narrow crevice, almost hidden from view, snaking through the rock formation. Without hesitation, she tugged my hand and led me towards it.

We squeezed into the confined space, the rough rock walls scraping against our shoulders. The scent of earth and ancient minerals filled the air, as if the mountain itself was wrapping its protective arms around us. In the darkness, Koa activated a small beam of light emanating from her wrist, providing us with a dim, unsteady glow.

"We have a chance here," Koa said, her voice steady despite the quiver in her tone. "These creatures are disoriented. They don't know the terrain as we do."

I nodded, my heart thudding against my ribcage like a caged animal desperate for release. "What are they? Why are they attacking us?" I demanded, my voice barely audible above the chaos reverberating outside our fragile sanctuary.

Koa hesitated for a moment, her eyes scanning the passage ahead. "I don't know," she whispered, her voice carrying a sorrowful undertone. "But I have a feeling they're not part of the planet's natural ecosystem. Something brought them here, deliberately."

A shiver ran down my spine, resonating with Koa's words. It was as if a silent conspiracy hung in the air, weaving a sinister web around us. The valley was meant to be a trial—an obstacle we had to overcome to reach the rescue ship, but now it seemed like something more malevolent was at play. The valley had ceased to be a mere physical challenge; it had transformed into a deadly game of survival.

With cautious steps, we continued along the passage, our footsteps blending with the echoes of our pursuers. The air grew cool and damp, whispers of an ancient underground river brushing against our cheeks. In the distance, the passage widened, revealing an expansive cavern shimmering with an ethereal glow. The source of the light was an array of glowing blue crystals nestled within the crevices of the chamber walls.

Koa released my hand, her eyes fixed on the mesmerizing sight before us. "I believe these crystals are the key," she said, her voice filled with a mix of awe and determination. "We need to find a way to tap into their energy. It might be our only hope of survival."

The crystals pulsed with an otherworldly energy, their brilliance casting ethereal shadows across our faces. They held a silent promise—a path forward, a chance to unravel the enigma that had taken hold of the valley. Whatever awaited us beyond the glowing crystals, I knew that embracing their energy was the only way to uncover the truth and protect Koa, no matter the cost.
