The sun shone down on the spaceport, beating furiously against the titanium alloy that was used to build the station. The heat waves were visible in the distance, like a mirage of sorts. The shuttle sat silently, waiting for its passengers and crew to arrive.
The door opened and five figures stepped out. They were all wearing space suits, but their faces were exposed to the atmosphere. Each of them had a different heritage: South Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Filipino.
They all stared up at the sky with awe, taking in the beauty of their home planet one last time before they would depart into space and never return. One of them walked forward and spoke into his microphone. “Houston, this is team leader Mr Kim from the Republic of Korea. We have arrived safely at the spaceport, awaiting our departure to Mars.”
“Mr Kim, this is Houston. Your launch is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 6 A.M sharp. Good luck on your mission!” responded an operator through the radio channel. He walked back towards his teammates as they all started to set up camp and prepare for the journey ahead of them.
The following morning had arrived and they were ready to go! After they boarded the shuttle they took off immediately and shot off to Mars quicker than you could blink your eyes. They had been en route for two hours when their attention was suddenly drawn to something in front of them – it was another spaceship! It looked similar to theirs, but it was older and decayed substantially; it was tilted at an awkward angle as if it had crashed on the surface of Mars many years ago long before they arrived here today!
They stared at it in awe until Mr Kim decided it was time for him to approach it because he felt a strong urge for curiosity – he wanted to know what caused this ship to crash-land on Mars all those decades ago! He grabbed hold of a rope and jumped down from his ship onto the other one – he landed safely on its cracked surface! He got up from his position and began exploring around – there was dust everywhere which made him sneeze uncontrollably! He wiped away some thick dust that covered his face and continued going deeper inside…
