Bluey and Mackenzie's Bush Adventure
·
Published 3/19/2023Bluey and Mackenzie, two brave and spirited Stone Age children from Africa, must protect a mysterious artifact from dangerous outsiders as their life-threatening quest teaches them the true realities of life - and the power of friendship.
“I found it,” I shouted to the group.
My friend Mackenzie was with me. We had been searching for hours. Our parents told us to investigate a strange sound we heard in the forest. It sounded like sticks hitting rocks. It was making a strange rhythm that we couldn't quite place, but it was familiar. We were still trying to figure out what it was when we stumbled upon this strange box.
It was about as tall as my head and made of metal. I didn't know what metal was at the time, but it was shiny and smooth like polished stone or bark. We could see that someone had carved letters into it and the edges looked sharp, so we were afraid to touch it. Mackenzie said she remembered her father teaching her some signs, so she tried putting her fingers on the letters. "This looks like one of the signs," she said. At first, nothing happened, then all of a sudden there was a flash of light and suddenly we both fell to the ground holding our ears!
We sat up slowly and felt our ears feeling them carefully with our fingertips. They didn't feel any different than normal, but they were sore nonetheless. Then I noticed something else was different: The words on the box were gone! In the place where they had been there were only strange round bits pressed into the silver surface of the box. I wondered if perhaps they were buttons of some kind that caused the flashing lights to appear when you pressed them in specific ways. Maybe they could even be used to make other things happen? But then I thought about how much trouble getting this far had caused us already and decided not to push our luck any further.
"Well, we can't leave it out here in the middle of nowhere," said Mackenzie with concern in her eyes as she began to realize just how difficult keeping this powerful object would be for us children alone without help from adults who knew how to use such an advanced device with its strange powers that would no doubt attract dangerous animals drawn by its unnatural light and noise wherever we took it! She sighed heavily before continuing "We need to give it back to my dad."
I nodded solemnly as I realized she was right indeed! No matter how much fun it would be to play with this mysterious artifact by ourselves, it would only cause trouble if we did that! And besides, this thing wasn't ours to begin with! We owed Dad a lot already for helping us out of a tricky situation when Mom died last year and now he's always helping everyone else too! If he hadn't helped me find food when I got lost in the woods just recently while hunting with my uncle, I might have starved! He saved me from a pack of wolves who wanted to eat me after all! So returning this thing is the least we can do for him! And besides, he might even know how to use this mysterious device properly without hurting anyone or anything around here too! He's pretty smart like that! But I don't think we should tell him about where we found this thing or he'll get upset again because he gets angry whenever people get hurt because of things like these newfangled weapons and tools floating around lately...
