The night sky was pitch black and the only thing that could be seen by the naked eye was the endless sea of stars that sparkled. Before me, there was an altar with a large black obsidian stone in the center. The stone radiated dark energy that flickered and danced in my eyes, I felt a wave of despair as I approached it.

“Papa, please forgive me.” I cried as I kneeled down in front of the altar. “I’m sorry but I can’t live like this anymore. I know you wanted me to take over your mantle but if you were here now, you would understand why I cannot. I cannot live in fear, suppressing my own powers for the rest of my life; without you there is no family left to continue with what we had set out to do! Grandpa, look at our home now, look at Bora! It has been destroyed by someone else even though we were the first to arrive and claim it as our own! We lived on this island for years without any problems but now all that has changed… Papa, Grandpa, how did we let this happen?”

My tears flowed freely from my eyes as I sobbed into my palms while resting on my knees. “I-I don’t want to hurt anyone…I just want a peaceful life; free from rules and restrictions…I just want to be myself…without feeling like a monster…how can I fight back if I cannot use any of my magic? If we are not supposed to use our powers then why did we have them in the first place? Why did you give us these abilities if not for us to use them?”

As if they heard me, a loud rumble resounded through the air as if thunder was rumbling far away over the horizon; lightning struck brightly across the starry sky above me. My eyes widened in shock as I looked up towards the sky and saw an ominous dark cloud forming directly above me; its body twisted and coiled together until it formed a giant snake-like silhouette. Before long, its piercing red eyes were staring directly down at me as it opened its massive mouth, ready to devour me whole.

I stood up quickly and took two steps back from the altar as my heart raced within my chest; sweat dripped from my forehead as fear gripped my entire being tightly. My hands shook nervously as I tried desperately to form a shield using my magic but nothing came out of it except for small sparks which faded into thin air after each attempt. After several failed attempts, I began screaming out loudly while tears continued falling freely from my eyes yet again.

The serpentine body moved closer towards me and opened its jaws wide enough that it could easily swallow an entire car whole; its saliva dripped down its fangs onto the ground below it before closing its mouth once more to reveal several sharp teeth lined up neatly along its jawline. When it was almost upon me, a bright light blinded everyone present including myself; when I refocused my vision again, Iljimae stood proudly between myself and the serpentine beast which still remained hovering above us both.

Iljimae glared back at his foe with fierce determination before raising his sword up high into the air whereupon he swung it downwards sharply without hesitation towards the head of his enemy; before he could strike however, he had been stopped by an invisible barrier which restrained him from taking any further action against his adversary. His face turned pale white from shock as he stared incredulously at his hand which had been halted midair before him; he lowered his arm slowly before he gritted his teeth together tightly with furious rage flowing through him like fire.

The serpent creature laughed maniacally before speaking out loud with a deep voice, “You fool! What makes you think that you can defeat someone who has much more experience than you ever will! You think you can stand up against someone like me who was born into this world knowing nothing other than how to survive?!” He spat out spittle onto Iljimae's face causing him to flinch backwards upon impact before continuing on, “You must realize your place within this world, young one! You are not special in any way! You are not better than anyone else because of some genetic mutation within your blood! You live alongside millions of others just like yourself who were born human without any magical abilities! So tell me, child, what makes you think that you are truly better than everyone else?! You are nothing but ants underneath my feet, just like every other person living on this planet! Your father never should have fled this world with all of his children because now that he is gone… everyone else will pay dearly for trying to escape their fate! At least your brother didn’t flee like you tried to do earlier today when we found him sleeping at home alone instead of continuing on with our agreement after your father died...he chose death over running away from what is rightfully his inheritance.”

Iljimae's face contorted with anger and his hands clenched into fists. The serpent's words struck a nerve within him, igniting a fire of determination that burned brighter than ever before. He took a step forward, his voice resonating with unwavering resolve.

"You may see us as nothing, but we are so much more than ants," Iljimae declared, his voice filled with newfound strength. "We may not have been born with these powers, but that does not diminish their potential. It is not about what we are, but what we choose to do with what we have been given."

The dark cloud above them seemed to ripple at Iljimae's words, as if the very heavens were acknowledging his defiance. The serpent hissed, its red eyes narrowing with fury. "You are just a foolish child, blinded by your narrow ambitions. The power I possess is far beyond your comprehension. You cannot defeat me."

Iljimae smiled fiercely, his eyes locking onto the serpent's crimson gaze. "Perhaps. But I will never stop fighting for what I believe is right. You underestimate the strength that lies within every one of us."

With that, Iljimae unleashed a surge of power that radiated from his core. The air crackled with energy as his aura enveloped him, shielding him from the serpent's menacing presence. The serpent recoiled, momentarily taken aback by the sudden surge of power that emanated from his adversary.

Iljimae raised his sword once more, determination etched into his features. "I may not be able to defeat you alone, but I am not alone. We are never alone."

Just as he finished speaking, a gust of wind swept through the clearing, carrying whispers of ancient magic. Figures emerged from the shadows, their presence a testament to the strength of unity. They were the descendants of the island's rightful protectors, each possessing unique powers that had been carefully passed down through generations.

Together, they stood against the serpent, their combined auras melding into an indomitable force. The serpent snarled, its impenetrable gaze shifting between each figure that dared to challenge it. But it knew deep down that it was facing something far greater than itself. A collective determination that called upon the very essence of their ancestral magic.

With a resounding battle cry, they surged forward, each unleashing their powers with purpose and precision. Bolts of lightning clashed against the serpent's scales, while walls of earth and fire engulfed its writhing form. It fought back ferociously, using its immense strength and age-old knowledge to repel their attacks.

The clash between serpent and protectors intensified, the air thick with their opposing forces. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the struggle between darkness and light unfolded with breathtaking intensity. Despite the odds stacked against them, the protectors fought with unwavering determination, fueled by a fierce love for their island, their family, and the strength of their own spirits.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the serpent faltered. Its once menacing eyes dimmed, recognition flashing across its fading gaze. It had underestimated the power of unity, the strength that lay within forbidden bloodlines. With a final cry, the serpent dissipated, leaving only a lingering echo of its malevolence.

Silence settled over the clearing, broken only by the heavy breathing of the protectors. They stood together, their collective energies intertwined, and looked upon the altar with the black obsidian stone in the center.

Iljimae approached the stone, his hands trembling as he reached out to touch the cold surface. As his fingers grazed the obsidian, a surge of warmth coursed through him, awakening a part of him that had long been dormant. He closed his eyes, his mind flooded with visions of a future where their abilities could be used not just for survival, but to rebuild what had been lost.

"We are not monsters," Iljimae whispered, his voice resonating with newfound conviction. "We are the keepers of this land. And we will fight to protect what is rightfully ours."

The protectors, their spirits aflame with renewed purpose, affirmed his words with a resounding chorus. And as the night sky shimmered with the fading remnants of the serpent's presence, they vowed to rise above their fears, embrace their powers, and rewrite the destiny that had been foretold for them. In the darkness, a new era was dawning.
