"Ariella, I'm so glad you decided to come with me. I was worried you'd be mad at me for not telling you about the trip but you seem to be having a good time and that's all I wanted."

"Tom, you could have told me about this place and I wouldn't have been mad! We were supposed to spend time together, away from my kids and your work. Even if we just would have been in another hotel room with the lights off. The important thing is that we're here now!"

"I know and thank you so much for coming with me."

They walked hand in hand through the beautiful garden they had just discovered while looking for a place to sit down. Next to them was a small pond where ducks and other water animals enjoyed themselves. In the distance they could see a small wooden house with smoke rising from its chimney. It looked too cozy to interrupt this serene moment by walking over there but eventually one of them would need to go get some coffee or something else to eat.

More than anything Tom wanted to tell Ariella how much he loved her, how happy he was that she came with him, how much he desired her and how much he wanted this day never end. But words always got stuck in his throat when he tried to say anything remotely romantic. Instead he just stared at her hazel eyes and smiled like an idiot hoping she would understand how happy she made him feel.

They both fell into silence as they listened to the birds sing their songs in the trees above them. Suddenly Ariella screamed out of fear as a little snake slithered across the ground towards her feet. She quickly jumped aside while Tom took out his phone to call security. He knew that snakes didn't bite humans unless they perceived them as threats but just in case it might still be best if someone checked it out. While he waited for someone to pick up the line he sat down next to Ariella on a nearby bench and put an arm around her shoulder trying to calm her down.

"What's happening?" asked Ariella breathlessly after she finally stopped shaking from fear. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, they're sending someone over right away," replied Tom reassuringly while putting his phone back into his pocket before taking Ariella's hands into his own again. They sat there in silence for another minute or two staring into each others eyes until suddenly something hit Tom on the side of his head knocking him back onto the bench unconscious.

Ariella's heart skipped a beat as she watched Tom crumple onto the bench, a cold terror washing over her. She sprang to her feet, her eyes darting around for the source of the unexpected attack. Panic surged through her veins as she spotted a group of masked figures emerging from the wooden house in the distance.

Fear gripped Ariella as she realized that they were not alone in this idyllic garden. She crouched down next to Tom, her hands trembling as she tried to wake him up. "Tom! Tom, please, wake up!" she pleaded, her voice quivering.

The figures drew closer, their purposeful strides devoid of any friendly intentions. Ariella's mind raced, desperately trying to come up with a plan. She spotted a fallen branch from a nearby tree and quickly grabbed it, holding it like a weapon.

Her heart pounding, Ariella stood her ground, determination in her eyes. "Stay back!" she shouted at the approaching intruders. "I won't let you touch us!"

One of the masked figures, tall and intimidating, stepped forward. "We don't want any trouble," he said, his voice surprisingly calm. "Just hand over whatever you have of value, and we'll be on our way."

Ariella's eyes narrowed, her grip tightening on the makeshift weapon. "You think I'm just going to let you take everything from us?" she retorted, her voice filled with defiance. "I won't be a victim."

As if on cue, Tom began to stir, groaning weakly as he regained consciousness. He slowly sat up, rubbing the side of his head where he had been hit. Confusion flickered in his eyes as he took in the tense situation before him.

"Ariella, what's happening?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.

Before she could answer, a surge of adrenaline coursed through Ariella's veins, fueling her determination to protect both herself and Tom. She lunged forward, swinging the branch at the nearest masked figure with an unexpected ferocity.

The sound of the branch connecting with flesh echoed in the air as the figure stumbled backward, momentarily stunned. Sensing an opportunity, Ariella seized Tom's hand and pulled him up from the bench, their escape fueled by sheer desperation.

They sprinted across the garden, their feet pounding on the soft grass as they made their way towards the safety of the trees. The masked figures gave chase, their footsteps hot on their heels. Fear fueled Ariella's every step, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

Just when it seemed that their pursuers would catch up to them, a voice rang out from the trees. "In here, hurry!"

Ariella's heart soared with relief as she recognized the voice of the security guard she had called moments ago. She veered off the path, leading Tom towards the source of the voice. They emerged into a small clearing, where the security guard stood, his presence a welcome sight.

Without hesitation, the guard led them through a hidden path, weaving through the dense foliage. His swift movements and knowledge of the area conveyed a sense of confidence, easing the panic that gripped Ariella's heart.

Finally, they reached a small cabin tucked away in the heart of the forest. The guard unlocked the door and ushered them inside, securing it behind them. They were safe, for now.

As Ariella caught her breath, she surveyed their surroundings with wary eyes. The little cabin was modest but comforting, its walls adorned with paintings of serene landscapes. A flickering fire radiated warmth, casting a soft glow throughout the room.

"Thank you," Ariella whispered, her voice filled with gratitude as she turned to the security guard. "If it weren't for you…"

The guard nodded solemnly. "It's my duty to ensure the safety of all guests here. I apologize for the breach in security."

Tom finally spoke up, his voice filled with concern. "Who were those people? Why did they attack us?"

The security guard's expression grew grave. "I'm afraid I don't have all the answers, but I suspect this might be more than just a simple robbery. There have been whispers of a dangerous group operating in these parts, targeting unsuspecting travelers. We'll need to contact the authorities and let them handle this."

Ariella shivered, the realization of how close they had come to danger settling heavily upon her. She glanced at Tom, grateful that they were alright, but a newfound sense of vulnerability lingered in her heart.

Little did they know that their encounter with the masked figures was just the beginning of a treacherous journey that would test their resilience and love for one another. As they sought answers and fought to uncover the truth, Ariella and Tom would discover that sometimes, the most unexpected and perilous circumstances could serve as catalysts for unimaginable strength and growth. In this fight for their lives, they would come face to face with long-buried secrets, daunting challenges, and an unyielding determination to protect the love they had found in each other.
