Impossible Imaginings

It was morning, the sun was in all its glory when I received the message from my boss. I opened it and instantly I thought of what to do with my day. It was a long weekend, which meant that I could sleep the whole day or go home early. But my boss’s words changed everything.

Subject: Critical Announcement

Greetings employees, It has been two weeks since the last time we made an announcement, but we are back with something far more important than another new assignment. For those of you who have not heard of our latest project, let me introduce you to VALESKA. We have decided to announce this now as we have finally found someone suitable to carry out our mission.

   We have been looking for quite some time, but it seems luck has finally smiled on us. We will be working together with Dr. Josephine Marie Faithful, who may already be known by some of you due to her popular books and articles on the subject of time travel and parallel universes. Her work is extraordinary and she is one of the most prominent researchers in this field today. She will be observing our experiments alongside our own scientists and hopefully writing a book about what we are doing here at Proxima Science and Technology Institute (PSTI).

Please read the attached missive for further information about what we will be doing over the next few years and how your jobs might be affected if any changes are made to them based on our findings. I hope you understand that this must be kept secret until everything is set in stone, so please do not share this information with anyone outside of PSTI or Dr Faithful's team without first getting permission from me or Mr Coxon, the project manager. Everyone? How is that even possible? Has he even told his wife? How is he going to explain that his entire family has been erased from existence? And can he really trust this Dr Faithful woman? What if she betrays him? Then again, why would she do that? He thought as he stared at his laptop screen trying to process all this information which was way beyond his comprehension. At least right now it was all beyond his comprehension. He shrugged off the thought, took a deep breath and stood up from his chair slowly walking towards his boss' office where he knew they were waiting for him: Mr Coxon and Dr Faithful herself.
