·
Published 3/21/2023With their razor sharp wit, fearless spirit, and extraordinary culinary skills, Hyeon Jeong must battle an ancient evil using their wits and the secret ingredient to save the world before it's too late.
Hyeon felt the fresh spring air caress their face as the sun peaked over the horizon. The first rays of light gently danced across the small village, bathing it in a soft golden glow. The people who were already awake stirred and started going about their day, not realizing that today was a day that would change their lives forever. The young man smiled warmly at his new home town as he prepared for his day.
Hyeon finished preparing breakfast for himself and his father. He quickly rushed to his room to put on his chef's uniform and get ready for work. Hyeon loved cooking so much that he had decided to work in his father's restaurant as soon as he could walk. His father had been a cook in the royal palace before they moved here and had always dreamed of opening his own place. But instead of moving back now that he had retired, he decided to open up shop here with Hyeon's mother instead. That was ten years ago and things were finally starting to look up for them.
"Hey dad!" Hyeon called out while stepping outside of the house. "Do you think we'll have time to take a break today?"
"That's what I've been trying to tell you," said his father, "We've got our grand reopening today! We can't afford to slack off."
"Really!?" Hyeon was excited beyond words, "That's great news dad! We've been working so hard on this place and I'm sure everyone will love it!"
But just as Hyeon went to give his father a big hug, something caught his eye from down the street. A small plume of smoke rose from one of the houses nearby, followed by another then another until many houses around them were engulfed in flames; all except for theirs. The two stared agape at each other for a few moments before hurriedly rushing back into their house and closing the door behind them, locking it tightly and peering out through the window panes. Hyeon watched as the fire spread quickly before him, hearing screams and cries erupt from the street below them. His heart rate began to rise but he couldn't move away from the window no matter how hard he tried. He watched helplessly as huge clouds of black smoke began to slowly fill their house and overwhelm him until...
Hyeon slowly opened his eyes to find himself still standing outside of his family home looking out onto the chaos unfolding before him in real life this time around.
"I...I remember it! My dream, I remember everything!" Hyeon exclaimed in delight. "This is amazing! How did that happen? Was this all part of my dream too?" he wondered aloud while looking around at what seemed like an exact recreation of his dream world only it was real this time around and everything was more vibrant than ever before. He ran inside to wake up his parents so they could see this marvel together only they weren't there anymore and neither was any evidence that they had ever lived there in reality either besides some old furniture covered with dust left behind in an attic which had been converted into a guest bedroom long ago when they ran out of space in their main home.
Hyeon stood there dumbstruck for a moment or two before rushing back outside where he looked around at all the familiar faces who were now frozen mid-action in what looked like horror after seeing something incomprehensible appear out of thin air right in front of them all simultaneously; including himself. Suddenly a cloud of black smoke began forming above him like it did earlier in his dream world only this one didn't dissipate like it did before but instead grew bigger and bigger until a portal opened up from within it and spat out a dark figure who began walking towards him menacingly until suddenly being struck by something unknown behind him causing him to stumble back several steps with glowing white light emanating from deep within its chest cavity before fading away leaving only pitch-black emptiness where its heart once was pumping blood freely through its well-muscled body previously until finally collapsing on itself lifelessly with none other than...
Hyeon woke up with a start on top of what appeared to be an altar surrounded by countless pieces of ancient armor adorned with ancient hieroglyphs etched into each piece like some sort of powerful ritualistic ceremony had taken place there sometime in the past while he slept soundly unaware until now when he realized that every single piece of armor belonged to people who looked exactly like him dressed similarly only older with long coats covering most of their bodies except for their hands which held swords extended outward pointing towards him menacingly looking like they would pounce on him if given even half an opportunity.
