Forrest's Smoke: A Tale of Love and Weed

Forrest sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the small glass pipe in his hand. He felt a mix of excitement and nerves as he turned it over, examining its curves and patterns. It was a gift from his girlfriend, Lily, who had been trying to convince him for weeks to smoke weed with her.

Forrest had never tried drugs before. He was always the responsible one, the rule follower. But there was something about Lily that made him want to step out of his comfort zone. She was wild and free-spirited, everything he wasn't. And he liked that about her.

He took a deep breath and stood up, tucking the pipe into his pocket. He glanced at himself in the mirror on his way out of the room, adjusting his glasses and running a hand through his messy hair. He looked like a stoner, he thought with a chuckle.

In the living room, Lily was sprawled out on the couch, scrolling through her phone. Her long blonde hair cascaded around her shoulders as she laughed at something on the screen.

"Forrest!" she exclaimed when she saw him. "You're finally ready to join me in my rebellious ways?"

Forrest shrugged nervously. "I guess so," he said.

Lily hopped up from the couch and crossed the room to where Forrest stood. She wrapped her arms around him and pressed a kiss to his lips.

"I'm proud of you," she said with a smile.

Forrest blushed and looked down at his feet. "Thanks," he mumbled.

Lily took Forrest's hand in hers and led him back to the couch. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small plastic baggie filled with green buds.

"Okay," she said as she began breaking up the weed with her fingers, "here's how this works."

She packed some of the broken-up weed into the glass pipe and handed it to Forrest.

"You just put your lips on the end here," she said, pointing to the mouthpiece, "and light the weed with a lighter while you inhale. Then hold the smoke in for a few seconds before exhaling."

Forrest nodded, trying to remember everything she was saying. He took the pipe from her and brought it up to his lips.

Lily pulled a lighter out of her pocket and sparked it, holding the flame over the weed. Forrest inhaled slowly as he watched the weed start to glow orange.

He held the smoke in for a few seconds before exhaling, coughing as he did so.

Lily laughed and patted him on the back. "You'll get used to it," she said.

Forrest took another hit from the pipe, this time inhaling more confidently. He passed the pipe back to Lily and leaned back against the couch cushions, feeling a wave of relaxation wash over him.

Lily took another hit and set the pipe down on the coffee table. She turned towards Forrest and smiled, her eyes slightly glazed over.

"Feeling good?" she asked.

Forrest nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah," he said softly. "I am."

Lily scooted closer to Forrest and rested her head on his shoulder. They sat in comfortable silence for a while, listening to the sounds of their breathing and the distant hum of traffic outside.

"I'm glad you decided to do this with me," Lily said after a while.

Forrest looked down at her and smiled. "Me too," he said.

They sat like that for what felt like hours until they were interrupted by Forrest's phone ringing from across the room. He reluctantly untangled himself from Lily's embrace and crossed over to where his phone was sitting on an end table.

It was his mom calling.

"Hey Mom," he said, answering the call.

"Hey sweetie," his mom's voice came through the phone. "I just wanted to check in and see how you're doing."

Forrest glanced back at Lily, who was now engrossed in a game on her phone. He turned away from her and lowered his voice.

"I'm good," he said. "Just hanging out with Lily."

His mom sighed on the other end of the line. "Forrest, I know I can't stop you from seeing her, but I really wish you would reconsider. She's not a good influence on you."

Forrest felt a pang of frustration at his mom's words. He knew she was just looking out for him, but it was hard to hear her speak so negatively about someone he cared about.

"I appreciate your concern, Mom," he said, trying to keep his voice calm. "But I'm capable of making my own decisions."

There was a pause on the other end of the line before his mom spoke again.

"You're right," she said finally. "You are old enough to make your own decisions, and I trust that you'll make the right ones."

Forrest let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. "Thanks, Mom," he said gratefully.

"Of course," she replied. "Just remember that if you ever need anything or have any questions, I'm always here for you."

"I will," Forrest promised.

They said their goodbyes and hung up the phone. Forrest crossed back over to the couch and sat down next to Lily, who looked up at him with concern in her eyes.

"Everything okay?" she asked.

Forrest nodded and took her hand in his. "Yeah," he said with a smile. "Everything's great."
