I was born in the year 145 B.C. I grew up in Gaul, a province which is now called France. I had a simple life as a shepherd, leaving my home village to tend the sheep and goats in the surrounding hills and forests. On one such trip, I encountered a man dressed all in black, who introduced himself as Urantreur.

"Hello there lad," he said in a thick French accent, "you're out awfully early today."

"Ah, bonjour monsieur," I replied, hoping that I was using his language correctly. "Oui, je suis ici pour les moutons."

"Well then you've come to the right place. You see this hill?" He gestured to the small hill behind him. "This is not just any hill; it's a portal to another realm where anything is possible."

I looked at him quizzically, unable to understand how a hill could be a portal to another realm. Before I could ask him more questions he seemed to read my mind and continued on with his explanation.

"Yes, you can't see it now but once you walk up to the top of this hill, you will find yourself in an entirely different world where anything you wish for can become reality." He paused, waiting for me to respond but I remained silent so he continued, "The only catch is that when you leave this world, your body will return here but your soul will no longer be connected to it." He paused again and then added as an afterthought, "That's why we call it a portal."

I chuckled at his last remark; I don't know if he was telling me the truth or if he was pulling my leg but either way it sounded like fun so I asked him if I could try it out.

He smiled at me and said sure, go ahead and climbed up the hill while he waited below. As soon as I stepped foot on top of the hill, I felt myself being sucked into a whirlpool of light and wind before finally landing back on terra firma again but this time I found myself on a sandy beach bathed in yellow sunlight instead of my usual dark forest setting.

"So what do you say? Are you ready for your first adventure?" Urantreur asked me from afar as he waded through the waves towards me.
