Dinesh's Unconventional Adventure
·
Published 4/18/2023Struggling to find his place in the chaotic era of legend, an ambitious yet unassuming student from India's Pacific Coast, Dinesh, embarks on an unexpected journey that will force him to rely on his own memories of schooling to navigate unusual scenarios, while his ultimate goal hangs in the balance.

The class was in session and the teacher had just started.
"So we all know where the Pacific Ocean is" said the teacher, "But do we know what it looks like?"
"The ocean?" asked a voice from the back of the room
"Yeah, the ocean," replied the teacher, "And don't say that it's blue because that's a stereotype. I want to show you something."
"What?" asked another student
"Just watch," replied the teacher, pointing to a screen on his desk.
The screen lit up and a large hologram appeared in front of them. It was blue.
"We see that it is blue," said a voice from the back of the room.
The image zoomed closer to reveal that not only was it blue but there were many different shades of blue, as well as some green and purple. The hologram zoomed even closer and they could see that there were some brown areas with hints of red and orange.
"Brown?" questioned a student, "How is that possible? How can there be brown in an ocean?"
"That's what I'm trying to show us," replied the teacher, "There are many different hues of ocean water."
The image zoomed out again to reveal that they were no longer looking at an ocean but rather at a view of Earth from space. A few students gasped in awe at seeing our planet for the first time.
As if reading their minds, or at least he hoped so, he continued, "This is Earth."
The image zoomed closer again until they were looking at India, then further until they could see Mumbai. From above, Mumbai looked very different than how Dinesh saw it every day. He knew where everything was but he couldn't identify most of what he saw from this angle.
A few more students gasped as they realized how small Mumbai really was. They zoomed further out until almost all of Asia was visible and then closer until they could see Japan in all its glory before pulling back out to see Europe and Africa and finally North America before landing on California. They stared in amazement as they watched San Francisco grow larger and larger until they could make out individual buildings before moving further inland to Los Angeles after which they moved northward to New York City and then New Jersey before pulling back out to sea to see Florida and Georgia before showing Washington DC and all its monuments.
Without thinking about it too much, Dinesh tried to remember everything he saw while silently wishing he could visit these places one day.
They zoomed back out over the Atlantic Ocean where two dots appeared on either side of France before zooming closer over Paris, presumably looking for something interesting but finding nothing so zooming back out into orbit around Earth where three more dots showed up above New York City before zooming down again where another three dots showed up as if by magic over Tokyo before zooming down once again over Kyoto where three more dots appeared out of nowhere before zooming up into space where five more dots appeared over India near Kathmandu before zooming down once more over Delhi where two dots appeared over Mumbai before zooming down yet again over Pune where one dot appeared next to Nagpur before zooming down along the coast and stopping on Goa where four more dots suddenly appeared above Calangute Beach right where Dinesh was standing with his friends watching this amazing display right in front of them in physics class!
