Gravity Chosen: The Imaginator's Quest
·
Published 11/30/2023Murph stared at the books on her bookshelf, floating in mid-air. She reached out to touch one of them, and it spun away from her, as if repelled by an invisible force.
"What's happening?" she whispered, her heart racing.
She looked around her room and saw that everything was defying gravity. Her toys were suspended in mid-air, and her posters hung at odd angles.
"Mom! Dad!" she called out, panic rising in her voice.
Her parents rushed into the room and froze at the sight before them.
"Oh my God," her dad said, his eyes wide.
"Is this another one of your pranks?" her mom asked, looking at Murph suspiciously.
"No! I swear I didn't do anything!" Murph protested.
Just then, a deep rumbling sound filled the air, and the room began to shake. Murph's parents grabbed onto each other for support as the shaking grew more intense.
"MURPH!"
The voice echoed through the room, causing Murph's heart to skip a beat. She recognized that voice. It was the same voice that had been speaking to her through the watch all these years. The voice of her father.
"Dad? Is that you?" she called out, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Yes, Murph. It's me," the voice replied. "I need your help."
Murph looked around frantically, trying to find the source of the voice. And then she saw it—a small black hole had formed in the center of her room, swirling with energy and pulling everything towards it.
"I can't hold on much longer," her dad's voice said urgently. "You have to close the anomaly."
"How?" Murph asked desperately.
"You're smart, Murph," he said. "Figure it out."
As if on instinct, Murph reached out towards the black hole and felt a surge of energy course through her. She closed her eyes and concentrated, trying to understand what was happening.
And then it hit her. The black hole wasn't a black hole at all—it was a wormhole. A gateway to another dimension.
"I have to stabilize the gravitational field," she said aloud, the pieces falling into place in her mind.
She reached out towards the floating books and focused on them, willing them to stay in place. Slowly, they began to settle back onto the bookshelf.
"Good, Murph," her dad's voice said encouragingly. "Now do the same with everything else."
Murph moved around the room, using her newfound power to bring everything back down to Earth. As she did, she could feel the energy from the wormhole coursing through her, making her stronger.
Finally, everything was back in its proper place. The room was still, and the wormhole had disappeared.
"Well done, Murph," her dad's voice said proudly.
"But what just happened?" Murph asked, still trying to process it all.
"It seems that you have inherited my ability to manipulate gravity," he explained. "The anomaly in your room was caused by a powerful being from another dimension known as the Imaginator. It chose you as its champion to save humanity from extinction."
Murph's head was spinning with this new information. She had so many questions.
"Why me? Why now?" she asked.
"The Imaginator sensed that humanity was on the brink of destruction and decided to intervene," he explained. "It granted you these powers so that you can explore other dimensions and find a solution to save Earth."
"But how am I supposed to do that?" Murph asked incredulously.
"You're smart, Murph," he said with a smile in his voice. "You'll figure it out."
And with those words of encouragement, his voice faded away.
