She doesn't understand the language, but she understands the look. The gaze of the young boy was directed not towards the screen, but towards her. She averted her eyes, turning her attention back to Christian and the equipment.

It wasn't as if she had anything against children, on the contrary, she always loved working with them during her own time in the orphanage back home. It was just that he looked so...so lost.

She sighed inwardly, trying to focus on Christian's instructions on how to switch the film reels and adjust the volume. He seemed more confident now that they were finally out of Copenhagen, away from all those curious eyes, which bothered him so much.

"Listen Emzy, you can call me Chris," he said in his usual peremptory manner. "I don't want you to be all stiff around me."

"All right," Emzy nodded her head in understanding. "So I just get this running and then we can go?"

"Yes," he said nodding his head vigorously. "You see that tent? That's where we'll set up and show our first film."

Emzy looked out of the window at the small caravan parked by a field. A small queue had formed outside and there was nothing in sight except for an endless sea of green stretching out as far as the eye could see.

"This is beautiful country," she said softly. "Very different from back home."

"Well yes," Christian answered impatiently. "The Germans are gone now."

"We're not going to Germany?" She asked with some alarm in her voice.

"Of course not," Christian reassured her hastily. "We're here today and tomorrow we'll be moving right on to Aarhus."

"Oh good," Emzy heaved a sigh of relief. Her heart beat faster as she imagined what it would be like if they were forced to travel back into Germany where she had grown up. Her throat went dry at the thought of having to face her past again so soon after leaving it behind her in Denmark. She wanted to put it behind her forever but it inevitably found its way into every corner of her life these days whether she liked it or not.

Christian noticed Emzy's change in expression and quickly changed the subject back to happier things before he gave himself away completely by saying something imprudent about their destination for the day. He didn't know how much Emzy could take just yet or rather how much he could take himself for telling someone else about his life story. He had only told one person before and that had been one too many already, he didn't want anyone else to know what happened back then until he got over it himself first. It was too painful a memory to share with anyone else yet alone someone who had suffered so deeply herself, who could relate better than anyone else could possibly do?

"Do you mind getting set up while I go and make sure everything is ready inside?" He asked abruptly cutting off his own train of thought before it got out of hand again and ended up revealing too much about himself and his past life with Emzy watching on curiously at his side as he hurriedly turned around without waiting for an answer from Emzy herself who quickly shrugged off this sudden change in Christian's demeanor and went about setting up the projector anyway once he had disappeared from sight into the small tent where people were queuing patiently outside waiting for performances to begin inside at any moment now with no further delay whatsoever!
