Aric and the Olympus Blaster

“It will be done,” Aric promised. The words came out with ease, and he was glad that they did. This was a promise he could keep. He had already proven it to himself.

Aric sat in the control room of his ship, Olympus. His crew had just lost contact with the planet Earth due to an unknown source of interference from the Andromeda galaxy. Technology couldn’t pick up how far the interference reached, so a trip to Earth was in order. He stared at the long range scanner, trying to see if there were any signatures that resembled spacecrafts or weapons fire in the vicinity of where he wanted to be.

The silence in the room was only interrupted by a beep on his screen. It had found something. A large object was moving towards earth from their current location. It appeared to be a vessel of some kind but Aric didn’t recognize it. It wasn’t one of the standard Alliance ships, but it definitely wasn’t a hostile either, as he didn’t see any weapons being fired from it onto Earth itself.

They were close enough to intercept if necessary, but Aric decided it would be best to stay put for now and watch what this ship would do next before making any rash decisions about its intentions.

His decision would pay off quickly. As he sat there pondering what this ship could possibly want, another appeared out of no where and joined it in orbit around Earth. Then another and another until there were at least ten ships gathered together in one spot as if waiting for something. Then all of a sudden they all scattered and almost simultaneously fired into earth's atmosphere directly above Beijing, China and detonated simultaneously in an explosion that rivaled that of the sun going super nova itself!

"What's happening down there?" Aric said through his ear piece to his first officer Koda who was manning his post on the bridge of the Olympus which was still much further away than where they had seen this mysterious fleet enter earth's atmosphere and detonate their explosive ordinance above one of its largest cities! "Is everyone alright?"

Koda responded over the comms," Everything is fine sir! I don't know what's happening down there though!" He replied back almost mechanically as if he were unable to process what was happening all around him! "I've never seen anything like it!"

Aric tried to make sense of what exactly had just happened through the chaos unfolding on his screen above him when all of a sudden everyone stood from their stations and looked at him with an expression he had never seen before! "It's amazing!" Koda said with awe as he watched an object appear out of thin air right outside their window! "There's debris everywhere!" He added excitedly ashen faced as he pointed outside at several pieces of metal and molten rock hurtling past them at unimaginable speeds!

"Do you have any idea what we're looking at right now?" Koda asked eagerly while pointing out more objects streaking by them like meteors!
