The Surprising Reunion
·
Published 1/7/2023When an impulsive display of neon-lit friendship reunites three estranged friends with their unpredictable former companion, Dennis Usky, aka "CashD$," they are forced to confront the uncertainty of life and the true value of companionship.
Kee and Kosta had known Dennis Usky—AKA CashD$—since their high school days. After graduating, Dennis had seemed to fall off the map; he quit his job and the group scarcely heard from him, until they found out that he had taken up a new line of work as a mailman working for the USPS. Still, now that he had been freed from the monotony of everyday life, he became entrenched in a different kind of lifestyle—that of an avid car enthusiast, spending every spare moment attached to his neon-light-illuminated Ford Taurus.
He even held local meets regularly, searching for new and unique things to do on cars, but what the two friends found surprising was how some how Cash$ had completely severed ties with them. He hadn't even responded to their attempts to reach out.
Making contact with Dennis seemed impossible at first, but Kee and Kosta were determined to win back their old friend, even if it meant going out of their comfort zone.
Act Two
They planned a visit to one of Dennis’s car meets and put together a few surprises for him, hoping that he was still around and see them. The meet was dominated by the flashing neon lights, somewhat ethereal and beckoning. The expected angry confrontation ensued, as CashD$ had grown worried of the lengths his friends would go to find him.
But eventually, after exhausted breaths, he softened up and opened up to them. Now CashD$ finally understood that his old friends only wanted the best for him and wanted him to be his old happy self, so he welcomed them with open arms.
Act Three
This welcoming period was soon put to the test. As it turned out, CashD$’s newfound gang that had taken him in, expecting exclusive loyalty, felt threatened by the old friend's new circle of people. As tensions rose, things became dangerous. An argument soon ensued and one of the gang members was shot.
Unfortunately this was just the start of the series of events that were to become part of their grim reality. CashD$ and his loyal friends were now in the hands of the law and their only hope of escape was the friendship they had always shared. A friendship strong enough to persevere even through the hardest of times.
Act Four
The trial wasn't easy and up against members of the criminal elite and a stern prosecutor, they believed they were stuck in an endless battle to prove their innocence. As days went by and the evidence pointed to their guilt against all odds, a sudden realization hit them. By this point, CashD$ had regained a lot of the knowledge about car activities he’d forgotten since he fell away from his friends, and it all came together when his knowledge allowed the group to recall key details from the scene of the crime from their collective memory.
Using their concealed knowledge of car activities and the combination of their collective experiences, Kee, Kosta and John Gham were able to provide an understanding of the crime that ranged from Dennis’s parts collection to the mechanics of an engine — successfully proving to the jury that none of them intended for the incident to occur, and that it was an accident resulting from a misunderstanding.
When the verdict was read, joy and tears of relief combined, allowing them the chance to walk out of those courtrooms. Though Cash$’s old gang was still at large, nothing could break the bonds created by each of them getting a second chance. This is why they vowed to forever remain friends and never to forget the way they felt when faced with the seemingly inevitable. Together, they where survivors.
