The drops hammered down on Yulia's head. They ran down the back of her neck. They got in her eyes and made her blink. They got in her mouth, and they tasted like salt.

"This is the worst time to travel, father." She spoke over the torrent.

"We've been through worse," he said, his voice muffled by his scarf. "I remember a storm like this when you were a baby."

"That was nice," she laughed. "No, I mean it was so bad that we almost didn't make it home in one piece."

"Yulia..." Her father's voice carried disapproval. "This isn't 'that bad'."

"It looks bad from up here. This could be the end of us." Yulia said quietly. The wind blew hard, and it was getting harder to see their way forward. The rain was even harder to deal with, though. It was just too much at once. Too much water, too much wind, too much... everything! Her long hair whipped around in front of her face as she struggled to keep herself upright. Despite the howling winds, she saw a shape, or thought she did, in the distance ahead of them. A small cottage? The rain was so heavy that she couldn't be sure if what she was seeing was real or not; but something about it drew her toward it anyway. She followed the vague outline through the rain and mist for some time before stopping dead in front of it: a sturdy looking building of stone and wood stood before her on sodden ground that had been softened by years of rainwater and boggy soil underneath; but most striking were two windows that were shining bright golden yellow light out into the darkness of nightfall, despite the heavy rains that covered everything else around them in darkness and gloom!

Yulia's father finally caught up to his daughter at last as she stood staring wide-eyed at the cottage before them. He also let his gaze drift over to where Yulia had stopped; then without hesitation he walked up to the door and knocked three times on it with the lion-headed knocker tied loosely around its one hinge. After what seemed like an eternity had passed he knocked again, this time louder than before; but still there was no response from within! On his third attempt he called out as well: "Hello? Anyone home?" But still no answer came - except for another flash of light from behind one of the windows! Was someone inside trying to signal for help through one of those windows? Yulia thought this might be the case when just then another flicker of light came from behind one of those very same windows - but this time it lasted only an instant longer than before! Was someone trying to communicate with them by flashing their lights on and off? If so there was an urgency about it which immediately gripped both Yulia and her father by the throat; for now they knew that something wasn't right here! The pair looked around themselves quickly but saw nothing that would explain why anyone inside this cottage would need any form of outside help! For all appearances they were standing beside a perfectly normal looking little house with a perfectly normal looking door - yet its bright golden lights shone out into the night giving them hope despite all else they could see around them!

"It looks like someone needs our help!" Said Yulia as she stepped forward toward the door once more; but her father grabbed hold of her arm firmly and held her back in place beside him!

"We don't know who lives here." He said sternly with urgency written across his face clearly. "What if this is some kind of trap?"

"Do you think it's dangerous?" Asked Yulia anxiously with fear in her voice as well as her eyes; but despite knowing that they should walk away from this place - they couldn't do anything other than stand rooted to their places as they stared at that door ahead as another flash came from behind one of those windows above them!

"We can't leave whoever is here!" Said Yulia decisively - though reluctantly - while at the same time ignoring or maybe unknowingly rubbing away a single tear which ran down her cheek because she wanted so badly for someone inside this cottage to want their help too! Then suddenly... there! There was another flash from behind that window closest to them again - just like before this flash lasted longer than any other flash had lasted before it until finally... there! A final flash came from behind that window which lasted longer still until finally... now nothing came next out from behind that last window anymore! As quickly as Yulia and her father had seen those flashes come from behind that window they also watched as every single light within both rooms within turned off leaving only utter darkness within its walls behind after such brightness before!

Still neither Yulia nor her father moved or spoke further until suddenly... there! A knock came on their own door instead now startling both Yulia and her father into action!

Yulia's father reached out and grasped hold of the doorknob, slowly turning it and opening the door just a crack. A gust of wind rushed in, sending a shiver down their spines. Standing on their doorstep was a figure cloaked in darkness. Water droplets dripped from their hood, obscuring their features.

"Who are you?" Yulia's father asked, his voice filled with both caution and curiosity.

The figure let out a weary sigh and pushed back the hood, revealing a face etched with exhaustion and deep lines of worry. The wrinkles seemed to hold countless stories and burdens.

"I apologize for the disturbance," the stranger said, their voice filled with a quiet desperation. "I am in need of assistance. My name is Selene, and I have been searching for this cottage for what feels like an eternity."

Yulia and her father exchanged glances, a mix of curiosity and concern reflected in their eyes.

"What do you seek?" Yulia's father asked, his voice softening with empathy.

Selene hesitated, as if gathering strength to speak the words. "I seek the knowledge and wisdom of the ancient seer who dwells within the depths of this cottage. They are said to possess the power to reveal one's true path and purpose."

A spark of recognition ignited within Yulia's mind. She had sensed it before, the mysterious aura that emanated from this cottage. It was no ordinary home but a place of magic and profound destiny.

"Please, come in," her father said, opening the door wider and allowing Selene to enter.

The cottage's interior welcomed them like a warm embrace. The cozy, dimly lit rooms were adorned with shelves overflowing with ancient tomes and scrolls. A flickering fireplace cast dancing shadows across the worn wooden floors.

"Wait here," Yulia's father instructed, disappearing into one of the rooms. He returned moments later with a steaming cup of herbal tea, offering it to Selene. "You must be exhausted from your journey. Rest and warm yourself by the fire."

Selene gratefully accepted the tea and sank onto a weathered armchair with a sigh of relief. The warm liquid embraced their hands, thawing away the chill that clung to their bones.

Yulia watched Selene intently, an unspoken connection forming between them. The stranger's presence was like a thread, intricately weaving itself into her life's tapestry. Deep down, Yulia knew that she was meant to be a part of Selene's quest.

"What brings you to seek the wisdom of the seer?" Yulia asked softly, taking a seat beside Selene.

Selene's eyes wandered to the window, where raindrops continued to cascade down like endless tears. "I have spent my life feeling lost, uncertain of my purpose. The weight of the world has been heavy upon my shoulders. I long to uncover the path that will illuminate my soul and bring peace to my troubled heart."

Yulia's heart resonated with Selene's words, for she too carried her own burden of questions and uncertainties.

"Perhaps," Yulia began, her voice filled with newfound determination, "we can embark on this journey together. Two souls seeking answers, united by destiny."

A glimmer of hope sparkled in Selene's eyes as a silent understanding passed between them. They may have been strangers mere moments ago, but now Yulia and Selene felt like kindred spirits linked by the whispered promises of fate.

As the rain drummed relentlessly against the cottage's windows, Yulia and Selene formed an unbreakable bond rooted in shared longing and the search for true purpose. Little did they know the adventures that awaited them, the trials they would face, and the transformative power that awaited them within the seer's ancient presence. Their lives had become forever intertwined, and the journey to uncover the mysteries of the seer's wisdom had only just begun.
