The first thing I noticed about her was the way she moved. She had been sipping on a hot chocolate and when she stood up, she did so with this fluidity that made me think of the ocean and how it moves when you look at it from above or the way a cat moves to squeeze itself through the small gap in your fence.

She turned to walk away only to find herself blocked by a man who was eating something that looked like a pizza but was most definitely not a pizza. He made some remark to her and I don’t know what she said back but it must have been funny because he laughed loudly. She looked down shyly before walking off.

I felt my heart race as it always did when I saw her, but then I remembered that she wouldn’t be able to hear me any more after today. A week ago, I had gone up to the god at the flower shop and asked him to send my love across the world into another country. At first he didn’t want to do it, but when I told him that I would give him my entire collection of Pokemon cards, he could barely contain his excitement. As for me, I barely managed to contain my own excitement as well for my whole life was about to change for the better.

At first, everything went perfectly well according to plan. My love received the letter and replied within three days, writing a short note which contained only two lines: “I am too busy now but please give me your number so that we can talk later.” I quickly rushed over to the post office in order to send her my details along with an extra letter of apology where I explained why I couldn’t call her right now. Then came the waiting game and once again, everything went according to plan as she texted me soon afterwards saying that she couldn’t wait any longer and would call me tonight.

Then things started going downhill fast. My phone rang exactly like everyone said it would but when I answered, there was no one on the other end. Not just once either; every time someone called me they didn’t say anything. Not even after I left them messages saying “Hello? Is anyone there? Can you please speak?” were they willing to reply in any way at all.

After about two weeks of this torment, I decided that if this continued then I would go insane so instead of waiting for tomorrow like usual, I went straight to the god at the flower shop and confronted him about his failure.

I thought he would probably just toss me out but instead he quickly agreed that he had made a terrible mistake and asked if we could meet somewhere else because this store wasn’t big enough for us both anymore and there was also an old lady staring at us who looked like she wanted to kill us both right now if given half a chance (which is actually quite worrying).
