The Game of Connecting Error

“I don’t understand,” I said, “How do you have a story for me already?”

The man chuckled, “It’s a gift to the ones that are special.”

I stood in front of the mirror, examining my eyes for any sign of an unbearable urge to know what the future held. I looked back at the futurist who was now writing on a notepad. “What does it look like?” I asked.

He turned towards me and smiled. “You look just like a hero. You’re going to be someone great. Someone people will look up to. Do you want to see it? It starts on page two…Three years from now…you will wake up on your 23rd Birthday with a feeling that something is missing from your life…A woman will appear in front of you…a beautiful woman…she will tell you about a place called Fantasy Land and how you must travel there to save its people from destruction…but she says she can only grant your wish if you drink from the holy water of life, the water that flows through her body…She takes out a cup and reaches for your hand…Do you want to see more?”

“Oh fuck yes!” I said without hesitation, “If this is true then I need to know everything! Tell me everything but skip ahead as far as possible!”

He nodded and flipped through the pages until he reached the end, “Here we go. The year is 2083 and you are speaking with someone in this very room…the person is asking you why you chose your actions in the past few years and if they were worth it. Do you want to hear this last part?”

I felt my heart sink when I saw that it had not been written yet, “No thank you, I think I already know what it says. If I am alive then it must have been worth it. Just show me that year and let me read what it says before I go! But first write down whatever happens in between here and there so we can skip forward! What do you say? Let us speed up time and live every moment twice! Who knows what else is possible today!? Who knows what else has changed!?” My enthusiasm was met by slight confusion on his face, but he wrote down what I said anyway. After he finished writing he pushed his chair back and stood up next to me, staring into my eyes as if looking into my soul itself. He grabbed my hands firmly and held them tightly while saying a strange chant in his native language, then released them suddenly as if we had just shaken hands rather than shared an intimate moment together, “There we go! We can now change time whenever we want as long as we both agree! You can go anywhere! Do anything! Everything is possible!! You should start preparing yourself though because we are about to witness something truly amazing together! It’ll be fun! You will love it! Don’t worry about anything other than enjoying yourself with me today because tomorrow things will be different for both of us! There will always be another tomorrow for us so let us enjoy today together like no one else can! Will you do this with me!? Will you share these final hours with me!? Let us make tonight last forever together!!!” He was grinning from ear to ear with such joy flowing through him that even I couldn't help but smile along with him as he took my hand once more and pulled me out towards his car which was waiting outside for us on this warm night filled with glowing stars ready to shine their brightest down upon us like never before...
