There's a catch.

I don't know what the catch is, but there's a catch. There has to be. Everything good has a catch.

I mean, think about it. What do all those stories have in common? Don't tell me you haven't noticed. Go watch some Disney movies or something like that. You'll see the pattern. The princesses are always beautiful, and the princes are handsome and brave and loyal – all those things we want in our ideal partners. True, many of these characters weren't born royalty, but their fates often align them with power and luxury. Consider the less fortunate and forgotten characters in these stories, forced to inhabit the shadows of their more successful counterparts.

Take Katniss Everdeen, for example. She ends up with Peeta Mellark and achieves success after the Hunger Games. But what about her sister Primrose? Her life was tragically cut short, preventing her from experiencing love and other joys of growing up. Elsa from Frozen endures betrayal upon betrayal before finding her place in the world. Cinderella, despite her happy ending, is riddled with deceitful acts to secure happiness on her part. Even storybook siblings Hansel and Gretel proved themselves cunning survivors, but at the expense of their mother who left them vulnerable in the forest.

At times, it feels like this endless list of stories is a distraction from what truly matters in life. We strive to build our financial success, acquire material belongings, and maintain an image of happiness, yet we remain unfulfilled. Money doesn't equate to absolute happiness or solve all our problems.

With this realization, I find myself questioning why these thoughts have surfaced today. The rain outside might be responsible; it has a way of stirring up introspection and memories of difficult moments. Just last week, my friends passed away, leaving me feeling isolated and questioning the point of existence. As the rain beats down outside, my thoughts turn to those final moments, and I'm left with the inevitable truth: nothing lasts forever. So why haven't my remaining friends reached out yet? Are they ignoring me or just as consumed by their thoughts as I am by mine?
